Pirate Stunts

CFB 26DefenseBlitz

Quick Recap:

Pirate stunts give you four-man pass rush pressure without blitzing, keeping your coverage intact while the QB sits on a timer. Set up **right pirate threeman** from formations like Nickel Over or 425, then add pinch and contain to stop rollouts toward the QB's strong hand. Use it on third and long, two-minute drill, or against pocket passers who step up.

What Are Pirate Stunts

Pass rush without the risk. That's what pirate stunts give you.

Most people think you need to blitz for pressure. Wrong. Blitzing in College Football 26 is inconsistent AND leaves you exposed in coverage. Takes too long to get there.

Pirate stunts solve both problems.

You get four-man pressure that actually works. Your coverage stays intact. The QB sits in the pocket on a timer instead of scrambling around making plays.

Here's the key difference — right pirate threeman goes TOWARD the QB's strong hand. Most stunts get beat by rollouts. This one stops them.

How to Set Up Right Pirate Threeman

Formation Requirements:

  • Four defensive linemen on the field
  • Nickel Over
  • Nickel 24
  • Nickel 33 Over
  • 425
  • Dime Normal

The Setup Process:

Step 1: Call any defensive play from these formations

Step 2: Go left on the D-pad

Step 3: Tap right bumper (Xbox) or R1 (PlayStation)

Step 4: Select pirate stunt

Step 5: Use D-pad to find RIGHT pirate threeman — not left

Don't just take the first pirate option. Tab over until you see right pirate threeman. This is crucial.

The Pinch and Contain Add-On

Before the snap:

  • Pinch defensive line — right bumper, left bumper
  • Set contain — keeps edge rushers disciplined

This setup puts maximum pressure on the pocket while maintaining rollout defense.

When to Use Pirate Stunts

Perfect Situations:

  • Third and long
  • Two-minute drill defense
  • When opponent loves rollouts
  • Against pocket passers who step up
  • Red zone passing downs

Avoid When:

  • Short yardage run situations
  • Goal line stands
  • When you KNOW it's a run

The stunt works best on obvious passing downs. Your D-tackle loops around — takes time to develop. Gets beat by quick handoffs up the middle.

Why Right Pirate Threeman Works

Two reasons this stunt is different:

Reason 1: Rollout Defense
After you pinch the line, that defensive tackle loops around toward the QB's strong hand. Right-handed QB tries rolling right? Your looping DT is already there. Left-handed QB rolls left? Same thing.

Reason 2: Pocket Collapse
The contain keeps outside rushers disciplined. Pinched line creates inside pressure. Looping tackle comes from the blind side. QB has nowhere to go.

Most people aren't expecting this specific stunt. They see the initial alignment and think they know what's coming. Then the DT disappears and shows up somewhere else.

Personnel Matters

Gets even better with:

  • Quick jump defensive tackles
  • Fast edge rushers
  • High motor pass rushers

Speed kills on this stunt. Slow defensive tackles won't get there in time.

Pro Setup: Call From Play Screen

Don't wait until after the play call. Set it up immediately:

Step 1: Hold down Y button during play selection

Step 2: This brings up cover six options

Step 3: Scroll down to find right pirate threeman

Step 4: Select it directly

You're already locked and loaded. No fumbling around with adjustments after the play call.

The Guess Pass Boost

Want maximum pressure? Guess pass.

Your pass rushers get better jump off the line. The stunt develops faster. More pressure, less time for the QB to figure out what's happening.

Risk: If they run, you're getting gashed. Only do this on obvious passing downs.

What Counters Pirate Stunts

Quick Game Kills Stunts:

  • Slants
  • Hitches
  • Quick outs
  • Hot routes

Ball's gone before your stunt gets home. Can't do anything about a one-step drop.

Draw Plays:
Your DT is looping away from his gap. Perfect time for a delayed handoff up the middle.

Screen Passes:
All that pass rush? Exactly what screens want to see. Let your rushers go by, dump it underneath.

Common Pirate Stunt Mistakes

Mistake 1: Using Left Pirate Instead of Right
Left pirate goes away from most QB's strong hand. Doesn't stop rollouts effectively. Always check which direction you're calling.

Mistake 2: Calling on Short Yardage
This isn't a run defense. It's pass rush. Don't call it on third and two.

Mistake 3: No Pinch or Contain
The stunt works better with line adjustments. Don't just call it and hope. Set up the pressure angles.

Mistake 4: Overusing It
Good opponents adapt. They'll start checking to quick game or draws. Mix it with other four-man rushes.

Use pirate stunts as your go-to four-man pressure. Consistent results without sacrificing coverage. Forces QBs to make decisions on a timer instead of extending plays with their legs.
