MTN Y Post One Adjustment

Madden 27OffensePassingHot RoutesPlaybook Tips

Quick Recap:

Run MTN Y Post One Adjustment out of Gun Trips TE or Gun Flex with one pre-snap change: hot route the inside trips receiver to a slant. Read flat first, then slant, then work the high/low between the return route and the tight end's built-in short post. That TE post is the play's real weapon. It quietly stresses deep coverage and opens everything else up.

MTN Y Post One Adjustment. Gun Trips TE, Madden 27

One adjustment. That's it.

Put your inside trips wide receiver on a slant. That's the only thing you need to do to make MTN Y Post work. Everything else is already there.

This play runs out of Gun Trips TE and Gun Flex. It's in a decent number of playbooks. Pull it up in the Civil.GG playbook database and you'll find it fast.

The reason this play is worth learning isn't the slant. It isn't the flat. It's the tight end post route. And most people don't even throw it. They don't have to. Just having it there breaks defenses.

How Do You Set Up MTN Y Post?

Pre-snap, do this one thing:

  • Find your inside trips wide receiver
  • Hot route him to a slant

Done. Don't overthink it. One route adjustment and the play is loaded.

---

How Do You Read MTN Y Post After the Snap?

Go in order. Don't stare at one guy. Read areas, not receivers.

  1. Halfback flat. Look here first. This flat is better than a standard flat route. If it's open, take it.
  2. Slant, second look. It's coming inside of the halfback. You'll see it develop right behind that flat.
  3. High/low. Third look. The return route and the tight end post create a high/low read. One of them is open. Figure out which one the coverage is taking away and throw the other.

That's your progression. Flat, slant, high/low. Simple.

Why Does the Tight End Post Break This Play Open?

This is the part people miss.

The tight end runs a short post. Not a hot routed post. It's different. And it matters. This route runs underneath deep coverage better than almost anything in the game. Deep blues, two-high looks. This tight end slides right under them.

Here's the thing: you might never throw him. That's fine. He's doing his job just by being on the field. Defenses have to account for him. That opens up your flat. That opens up your slant. The tight end post is the reason everything else works.

It's a back breaker. Not because you're hitting it every play, but because the defense can't ignore it.

When Should You Use MTN Y Post?

  • Nearly any situation. This play runs all the way down to the 5-yard line.
  • Against dang near every coverage look.
  • Against CPU. You really don't even need to worry. Just run it.
  • Any time you want a play that has answers built in. Flat, slant, and a post working together.

This isn't a situational play you pull out once a game. It can be a base play if you want it to be.

---

What Counters MTN Y Post?

There are a few coverages that give this play trouble:

  • Cover 2
  • Cover 2 Hard Flat
  • Cover 2 Roll Invert. Ends up in a similar spot to Hard Flat

If your opponent starts throwing those at you, be aware. Adjust.

That said. This play still does a job against those looks. It's not cooked just because they go Cover 2. Read your progression, trust the tight end, and take what they give you.

Where Else Can You Find the Short Post Route?

You don't have to run this exact play every time. The tight end's route, that short post, is the key. It's tagged in the Civil.GG playbook database. Go to this play, hit See Routes, and find it.

There are 57 total plays in Madden 27 with that short post. Not all of them are the same situation. A lot will be RPOs or screens, so keep that in mind. But the route exists in other places.

Formations to check:

  • Gun Wild Trips Close. Shows up a couple times here
  • Gun Wild Trips Close Bunch Wide Nasty
  • Some pistol formations

There's also a play, the one that sticks straight up in the formation icon, that has the exact same post route. That's been a personal favorite. Same concept, different look.

Once you know what the route does, you can find it everywhere. That's the whole point.

Common Mistakes on MTN Y Post

  • Skipping the flat. That halfback flat is your first read. It's better than a normal flat. A lot of people fly past it chasing the slant or the post.
  • Forcing the tight end. He's your back breaker, not your primary. Let coverage tell you when to throw him.
  • Staring at one receiver. Read areas. Flat side first. Then slant. Then the high/low. Go in order.
  • Not making the one adjustment. The play works WAY better with that inside receiver on the slant. Don't skip it.
---

One adjustment. One read progression. A tight end post that defenses can't ignore. MTN Y Post isn't complicated. You just have to actually run it.
