His route now starts deeper. When he makes his break at the stem, he's already running at full speed. The corner is reacting. It's not tied to one play. That's what makes it useful. Stop running them.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\u003Cp>\u003Cstrong>The halfback on a standard route.\u003C\u002Fstrong> A linebacker or safety is manned up on him and you can go play that guy yourself on defense. It's not a man-beater. If you think they're blitzing, block him. The comeback takes longer to develop but the receiver is working away from the defender at the break. That's the difference. It actually gets open. Having slants, drags, and stemmed routes in your play doesn't hurt you against zone either. They're not dead routes.
