College Football 27

You're at the two yard line. You've got a run called. The pile is stacked. You push up into the back of your lineman and hold X. And your back LEAPS over the top straight into the end zone.

That's the dolphin dive. And inside the three, it turns touchdowns you were going to miss into touchdowns you actually get.

Here's exactly how to do it. And when NOT to.

What Is the Dolphin Dive in College Football 27?

The dolphin dive is a goal line move that sends your ball carrier up and OVER the offensive line instead of trying to find a gap underneath. You get a leap animation. Your back goes airborne and clears the pile.

This is different from a regular dive. A regular dive is low. The dolphin dive gets you vertical. Up and over. If you're getting a dive animation instead of a leap, you're doing it wrong. More on that below.

How to Do the Dolphin Dive

Push the left stick directly up into the back of an offensive lineman

Hold X (PlayStation) or Square

That's it. Two inputs. The stick direction is the part people mess up most. You have to be pushing straight up. Into your lineman's back. If you're angled or drifting sideways, you won't get the leap.

The other thing that kills it - timing. Do it too early and you get a dive animation instead of a leap. The dive animation is low to the ground. That's NOT what you want. Wait until you're tight to the line before you trigger it.

When to Use the Dolphin Dive

Two conditions have to be true before you even think about this:

You're inside the three yard line, this is a goal line move, not a first down move

You're running the ball, the only situation where you're going downhill into a lineman anyway

That's the checklist. Both boxes have to be checked. If you're at the seven yard line, don't do this. If you can just run straight in without leaping, just run in. Don't dolphin dive for the sake of doing it. Use it when the pile is stacked and there's no clear lane underneath.

This move exists for one specific situation. Use it in that situation.

Why It Works

Because defenders at the goal line are focused on stopping what's in front of them. Not what's coming over the top. The whole defensive line is crashing down, sitting low, trying to hold the line. The dolphin dive goes a direction they're not accounting for.

You also get over the pile before the physics of a tackle can fully kick in. Defenders can't wrap up what they can't reach.

It's not magic. It doesn't guarantee a score. But it puts the ball in the end zone on plays that would've been stopped at the one.

Common Mistakes That Kill the Play

Getting a dive animation instead of a leap

This is the big one. If you trigger it too early or you're not close enough to the line, the game gives you a low diving animation, and that doesn't get you over anybody. You want the LEAP. Wait until you're right on top of the pile.

Using it outside the three yard line

This move doesn't belong outside the three. It's designed for one scenario. If you're using it further out, you're not getting the right payoff and you're exposing yourself to risk for no reason.

Angling the left stick

Push straight up, directly into your lineman's back. If you're angled, you break the mechanic. Direction matters here.

Doing it when you don't need to

If there's a clean lane and you can just walk in - walk in. Don't add a step you don't need. The dolphin dive is for when the pile is stacked and there's nowhere to go underneath. That's its job.

What Are the Risks?

This is not a guaranteed score. Two things can go wrong:

Fumble risk, if you take a hit mid-leap, the ball can come out

Wrong animation, dive instead of leap means you're not getting over anybody, and now you're on the ground short of the end zone

The fumble risk is real. You're exposed in the air. That's the tradeoff. But inside the three, with a stacked pile and no lane. The tradeoff is worth it. You weren't scoring anyway without it.

How Does This Fit Into Your Goal Line Package?

The dolphin dive works best when you already have a run game your defense has to respect. If you've got one reliable run play out of your formations, a go-to that you can hit consistently, defenders are already worried about stopping it at the line. That's when you get to the goal line. That's when this move matters.

The dolphin dive doesn't replace good run play selection. It's what you reach for when you've done everything right, you're at the one yard line, and the pile is just - there. Stacked. No gap. That's your moment.

Quick Summary

Left stick up + hold X/Square.
