Making Defenders Miss

CFB 26OffenseRun Game

Quick Recap:

Master two moves: the basic spin (tap B/Circle + left stick direction, no turbo) and the turbo juke (hold turbo + flick right stick). Use spins in traffic near the line of scrimmage, jukes in open field situations for extra yards.

How to Make Defenders Miss in College Football 26

Two moves. That's it. Master the basic spin and the turbo juke — you'll break off way more big plays.

Most people try to get fancy with ball carrier moves. They're doing way too much. You need TWO moves that actually work when you get in those one-on-one situations in the open field.

The spin move: Tap B/Circle + push left stick where you want to spin. NO turbo.

The turbo juke: Hold turbo + flick right stick left/right/back at an angle.

That's literally it. These aren't always going to make someone miss — but when you get that one-on-one opportunity, you're looking at an extra 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 yards. Sometimes a touchdown when you shouldn't have one.

How to Execute the Basic Spin Move

This is THE move for breaking tackles in tight spaces.

Button inputs:

  • Tap B or Circle (don't hold it)
  • Push left stick in direction you want to spin
  • Do NOT hold turbo

The key word here is TAP. You're not holding B/Circle down. Quick tap, push the stick, let it happen.

Players with better spin move ratings and higher agility stats will make this way more effective. Your running back matters here — someone athletic is going to spin better than a power back.

This move works best when:

  • You're in traffic near the line of scrimmage
  • A linebacker is coming straight at you
  • You need to break one tackle to get to the second level
  • Defender is committed to a specific angle

When to Use the Turbo Juke

The juke is more situational than the spin. You're using this in open field situations where you have space to work.

Button inputs:

  • Hold right trigger (turbo)
  • Flick right stick horizontally left or right
  • OR flick right stick back at an angle

The turbo juke gives you two different moves:

  • Hard juke: Right stick left/right for sharp cuts
  • Back cut: Right stick back at an angle to reverse field

This isn't really for cutting back to find holes. You're using the juke specifically to make people miss in space.

Cut away from the defense. Wherever they're coming at you from — cut the opposite direction. If a safety is coming from your right, juke left. If the linebacker is flowing left, cut back right.

What Situations Call for Which Move

Use the spin move when:

  • Defender is close and coming straight at you
  • You're in tight spaces near the line
  • Multiple defenders are around but not perfectly positioned
  • You need to break a tackle, not avoid contact entirely

Use the turbo juke when:

  • You have open field in front of you
  • Defender is approaching at an angle
  • You can see which direction they're committing to
  • You want to completely avoid contact

Why These Moves Actually Work

The spin move works because it changes your hitbox at the exact moment of contact. The defender has already committed to tackling where you WERE — not where you're spinning TO.

The turbo juke works because you're forcing the defender to make a choice. They have to commit to one side or the other. Soon as they do — you go the other way.

Both moves are about timing. You're not just randomly hitting buttons. You wait until the defender commits, THEN you make your move.

Common Mistakes That Kill These Moves

Holding turbo during the spin move. This completely changes how the move works. The spin is meant to be quick and tight — turbo makes it slow and wide. Easy tackle for the defense.

Using moves too early. If you juke when the defender is still 5 yards away, they just adjust. Wait until they're committed to their tackle attempt.

Wrong move for the situation. Don't spin in the open field when you should juke. Don't juke in traffic when you should spin.

Overusing the moves. These work because defenders don't expect them. If you're juking every single play, they'll start playing more conservative and not committing as hard.

What Counters These Moves

Good players will start taking better angles instead of running straight at you. They'll force you toward the sideline or toward help.

Conservative tackling beats both moves. If someone just runs alongside you and waits for help instead of going for the big hit, your moves become less effective.

Speed kills juke moves. If someone is way faster than your ball carrier, they can recover from being juked.

The counter to being countered: mix up when you use the moves. Sometimes just run straight and take what's there. Keep them guessing.
